The literary genuis of Sonia Sanchez was celebrated in July 2011 during a weeklong poetry seminar presented by the Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison University. The center is founded by Joanne Gabbin, one of the nation's top black literature scholars and a close friend of Sanchez. This exclusive recording was broadcast on the Feb. 8 The Wil LaVeist Show, which celebrated what makes women most attractive -- their intellect -- features a poem by Gabbin in honor of Sanchez, a prayer by their friend, fellow Black Arts Movement legend, Nikki Giavanni, and a poem about peace by Sanchez.
